Neurocardiogenic syncope, fainting episodes and supportive care
Neurocardiogenic syncope — often called vasovagal or reflex-mediated fainting in everyday conversation — can include dizziness, nausea, tunnel vision, sweating, weakness and passing out.
Back to Health. Back to You. If you have fainting or near-fainting episodes, medical evaluation comes first. This page is about supportive overlap care, not bypassing cardiology.
Why people with syncope sometimes still search neck care
Patients with syncope or presyncope often also describe migraines, upper-neck tension, concussion history, dysautonomia, or extreme symptom sensitivity. They are trying to figure out whether one more source of body stress is making the whole system less resilient.
That is a reasonable question. But the right sequence matters. Dangerous cardiac and neurological causes need to be ruled out first. Once a patient is being managed appropriately, gentle upper cervical care may be one supportive tool if the neck is clearly part of the burden.
You can take fainting seriously without giving up on finding supportive pieces that help you function better.
Welcome Back Chiropractic serves Austin, Westlake, Lakeway, Westlake Hills, Spicewood, Marble Falls and surrounding communities. For complex cases, the goal is clarity, not overclaiming.
Words people use before they ever say “syncope”
Symptoms people often describe
- I get waves where everything goes gray or tunnel-visioned
- I feel clammy, shaky, weak or suddenly drained
- I have nausea, head pressure or ringing before I go down
- I also have headaches, neck pain or post-concussion symptoms
- I am scared to drive, shower alone or stand too long
What patients usually want
- A doctor who looks at the whole picture, not just one label.
- A gentle approach that does not unnecessarily stir up a sensitive system.
- Honest guidance about whether conservative care fits — or whether a referral matters first.
- A plan that respects real life: work, driving, screens, sleep, family, recovery and function.
Why upper cervical care gets searched
When the top of the neck is irritated, overloaded or not tolerating motion well, the symptom spillover can be surprisingly broad. That is why so many people with “mystery” head, neck, dizziness and nervous-system complaints start looking for precise upper cervical help.
Our lane in a syncope conversation
We do not treat fainting as a casual wellness issue. We want to know what workup has been done, what specialists are involved, what triggers episodes, and whether the neck seems to aggravate the pattern.
If there is room for supportive care, it must be calm, conservative and coordinated. The goal is not to claim that an upper cervical adjustment prevents all fainting. The goal is to reduce one layer of strain where appropriate.
Our promise on complex cases
We would rather position your case honestly than oversell what one office can do. If conservative upper cervical support makes sense, great. If you need imaging review, neurology, cardiology, vestibular rehab, PT, dental/TMJ work, pediatric care or neurosurgical guidance first, we will tell you.
Do not delay emergency or urgent care for
- Syncope with chest pain, palpitations, injury, seizure-like activity or major trauma
- Blackouts that are new, unexplained or worsening
- Neurological deficits before or after an episode
- Any episode that feels unsafe or medically different from your usual pattern
Frequently asked questions
Should I see a chiropractor first for syncope?
No. Fainting and near-fainting deserve proper medical evaluation first.
Why would someone with syncope still seek upper cervical support?
Because some patients also have major headache, neck or post-injury patterns that seem to worsen their overall tolerance. Supportive care may help selected patients, but only in the right context.
Is this the same as POTS?
Not necessarily. POTS can include presyncope, but POTS and neurocardiogenic syncope are not identical.
